Corn is planted and harvested worldwide. Prior to mechanical pickers, corn was and still is, in some places, broken off the stalk by hand, one ear at a time. Jerry’s late father, Pete Locklair, is breaking the ears of corn off the stalk and placing them into an old hand woven farm basket. The corn will then be dumped into a wagon and hauled to the corn barn. Mr. Locklair purchased a mechanical corn picker in 1959 and no longer had to continue this age-old method of pulling or breaking corn by hand. |
